Majoring in Anthropology

Mackenzie Cross is a senior studying anthropology, with a focus in biological anthropology. Under the direction of Dr. James Enloe, she assisted in archaeological excavations at Woodpecker Cave in Coralville, IA, then spent a year in the Zooarchaeology Lab identifying excavated animal bones. In the summer of 2018, Mackenzie interned at Duke Lemur Center where she studied lemur behavior and developed a passion for primates. She is currently working on a senior thesis exploring the development of Alzheimer’s disease and Schizophrenia within the context of human evolution. Based on her own experiences growing up in a small town, she is particularly interested in science outreach for rural populations. In her free time, she can be found grabbing coffee with friends, reading or starting DIY home projects that she never finishes.
