Encouraging Young Women to pursue Science Through Female Mentorship with Women in STEM
My project will be engaging young girls in late elementary school in science activities with mentors once a week to develop their interest. I will be collaborating with Mann Elementary’s after school program (BASP) to set this up at the school, and with Women in Science and Engineering at the University of Iowa to be the mentors for this program. The Iowa Children’s Museum in Coralville will also assist me in planning program activities and in outreach to elementary school students. My goal is for these young students to enjoy their time in these science activities and in spending time with their mentee, to understand how science can be really interesting and a potential field to pursue.
