Understanding Outreach: Present goals and strategies of scientific outreach at The University of Iowa

In order to figure out how to prepare for the future of scientific outreach, a firm understanding of the present situation must be taken into account. Understanding Outreach attempts to get a more detailed perspective of current scientific outreach efforts here at Iowa, as well as plans and goals for the future development of these initiatives.

James is a senior from Dubuque, Iowa, majoring in Economics. He is interested in scientific outreach and communication because of past experiences majoring in STEM fields and his general interest in science outside the classroom. James believes science is a tool to use for discovery and exploration of both the outside world and ourselves. As a scientific communicator, he hopes to improve upon his own ability to craft interesting science stories in addition to developing more specific and measurable goals of how to improve scientific communication.
